Literacy Volunteers of Otsego and Delaware Counties

Literacy Volunteers of Otsego and Delaware Counties was founded in 1974 by Dr. Roy Bartoo, then a professor of reading at SUNY Oneonta.  The organization’s mission was and is to strengthen our communities and change lives through literacy. We pair volunteer tutors with adults who want to improve their literacy skills or learn English as a new language.   We support tutors as they work with students to achieve their individual literacy goals.

Our services are free, voluntary, and confidential. We encourage referrals of potential students from many partner agencies, from local employers, and from adults wanting tutoring.
