Our volunteers provide one-on-one or small-group literacy tutoring tailored to meet the goals of individual students. Those goals include learning to speak English, improving reading or writing skills, passing a driver’s license test, helping children with their homework, getting a job or a better job, preparing for the high school equivalency exam, or simply being able to better enjoy the inspiration and pleasure that come from reading.
We recruit and prepare volunteers to become tutors and then pair them with one or more students and help them work out a plan for study. We conduct workshops that allow tutors to share ideas and inspiration and learn more about best practices.
