Many local partner agencies identify potential LVODC students who could benefit from our tutoring programs, whether to support them as they prepare to work on a high school equivalency, improve their spoken English as non-native speakers, or learn to read well enough to pass a NYS driver’s test or fill out job applications. Current agency partners include ONC BOCES Adult Education, CDO Workforce, Oneonta Job Corps Academy, and ARC, to name just a few.
We also have had success working with employers to teach their workers spoken and written English. We are always looking for additional partner agencies, businesses, libraries, and schools with which we can collaborate to sustain and enhance the reach of our literacy programs in Otsego, Delaware, and Chenango Counties.
Because our principal funding is a NYS Education Department Adult Literacy Education grant administered by Oswego County Opportunities (OCO), we work closely within our Regional Adult Education Network, which provides staff training in test administration and data management. We benefit greatly from the guidance of OCO staff and the training resources of Literacy New York (LNY). LNY’s robust program, Intake to Outcomes Online Training for Adult Literacy Tutors, is available to LVODC tutors.
Critical partners of LVODC are our funders and other supporters. In addition to the NYS Education Department, our underwriters include the United Way of Sidney, the Community Foundation of Unadilla, Roots and Wings of Catholic Charities in Norwich, several local private charitable foundations, civic-minded businesses, and generous individuals. And of course, we could not exist without the time, energy, skill, and enthusiasm of our volunteers—not only our tutors, but those who staff our office, serve on our Board of Directors, conduct fundraisers on our behalf, or contribute communication expertise to help us reach out to the community. If you would like to support our efforts, please see our donate page. And thank you!
